Informations
Market opening
2007.12.19All customers in the Hungarian electricity market will be able to freely choose their electricity supplier after January 1, 2008. Hungary must fully deregulate its electricity market in order to comply with the requirements of the European Union. The lengthy process that began in 2003 will end on January 1, 2008, when household customers will join large consumers and non-household customers in the deregulated electricity market.
As the previous public utility service will cease to exist, customers will be able to buy the required amount of electricity from a source of their choice:
- electricity traders, whose prices will be determined by market forces. These are a source available to all consumers.
- a universal service provider, whose initial price, which will be in effect from January 1, 2008, will be set by a decree, and whose subsequent price changes will be approved by the Hungarian Energy Office before they can be applied. Universal supply is available to all household consumers and to certain business consumers.
