E.ON Hungária, the Diamond Main Sponsor of the Hungarian Olympic Team, launched the E.ON Olympic Club with the aim of providing its staff the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the Olympic movement and the ideas behind it and to make personal contact with outstanding Hungarian sportspeople before the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing.
The first meeting was held on March 8 in E.ON's Budapest headquarters. Participants included Olympic swimming champion Ágnes Kovács, Olympic javelin throw champion Angéla Németh, Olympic silver medalist figure skater Krisztina Regőczy and Olympic kayaking champion Éva Dónusz.
The women's committee of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB) presented its "Women for Sports" award at the event, which went to Ágnes Kovács for her outstanding and enduring performance throughout the year. The award was presented to the sportswoman, who won three bronze medals at the European Swimming Championship in Budapest, by MOB board member Judit Faragó.
