Corporate Governance

As an energy provider, we bear considerable responsibility for our society and economy. Our products and services form the basis of economic progress and safeguard the quality of our customers' lives. One of the key elements in our CSR is responsible corporate governance that focuses on establishing guidelines and clear-cut CR organization, maintaining permanent dialogue with stakeholders, and practicing sustainable risk management.

Responsible corporate governance feeds into four fields of action: the marketplace, the workplace, the environment, and the community.

In the "marketplace" we focus on security of supply, customer orientation, and guaranteeing fair competition.

The "environment" refers to our climate protection activities, energy efficiency, renewable energy resources, and the active protection of the environment (emissions of harmful substances, waste management, and water and wastewater treatment).

The "community" focuses on our local activities, from supporting children and young people to promoting arts and culture and playing an active role in regional development.

The "workplace", of course, affects primarily our own employees. Training, staff development, employee engagement, occupational safety, and workplace diversity are all key aspects here.

We began setting up organizational units active in CSR in 2007. We have created the so-called CR Management Circle, which has five workgroups working on CR-conscious operation. The CR Management Circle convenes each quarter to make recommendations to the Board of Directors, evaluate the work done in the previous quarter, supervise the realization of set targets, and make new plans.

The organizational background of CR activity in the Corporate Center and in our market and business units

The workgroups responsible for responsible corporate governance, market and community, climate and environmental protection, health and occupational safety submit a group-level report to the Core Team. The purpose of cooperation between the workgroups is to create group-level guidelines and action plans.

Our collective contract, a document drafted in cooperation with trade unions, and the Code of Conduct, which embodies our employees' work culture, have been put on the Intranet to keep our employees more fully informed.

Our quality management system is in line with ISO 9001:2000 specifications, which require organizations to offer products and performance that match customers' expectations and official requirements, and which also aim to increase customer satisfaction.

Our environmental management system is part of a full management system that complies with Hungarian Standard MSZ EN ISO 14001:2005, which covers the organizational structure, planning activity, responsibilities, practices, processes and resources required for drafting, implementing, reviewing and maintaining environmental policies.

Our Occupational Health and Safety Management System, abbreviated MEBIR in Hungarian, is based on the BS 8800/OHSAS 18001 health and safety management system conformance certification.

We have recognized that awareness of our commitment to the environment and local communities is either too low or does not live up to our stakeholders’ expectations. In general, we need to communicate our values and achievements more transparently. We intend to continue developing our strengths and eliminating our weaknesses in the years to come.
